Juvenile Dog Training in Shellharbour, NSW
The structured group class for adolescent dogs across Shellharbour, Albion Park, Oak Flats, Warilla, and Lake Illawarra. For the dog who isn't a puppy anymore but isn't grown up yet either.
What happens between six and twelve months
The Shellharbour beach-dog lifestyle is brilliant for puppies and brilliant for grown-up dogs. It's surprisingly hard on the six-to-twelve-month adolescent in between. The puppy who could be off-lead at Killalea last month suddenly can't be trusted past the dunes. The dog who was great at puppy school decides recall is optional. The polite young dog at home becomes a 25kg parkour artist.
This is adolescence. It's biological, it's predictable, and it's the most under-trained stage in dog development. Most owners assume their puppy school covered it and discover the hard way it didn't. Juvenile Dog Training Class is the structured refresh that gets you through this stage with the foundation intact.
What our Juvenile Dog Training Class covers
A structured group program for dogs roughly four to twelve months old. Classes run from our Lake Illawarra academy on Commerce Drive, easy reach from Shellharbour City, Albion Park, Oak Flats, Warilla, and surrounds.
What we work on:
- Recall under real distraction, including beach-level and cafe-level situations.
- Leash skills in busy environments. The Shellharbour foreshore, Reddall Reserve, beach walks at peak times.
- Impulse control around food, doors, other dogs, kids, bikes.
- Settle work for adolescents who are physically grown but mentally still wired.
- Controlled group dynamics so other adolescent dogs become a learning environment, not a flashpoint.
How we run it
Our class uses The Walkys Method: clarity, calm, and fulfilment. We assume the dog has been to puppy school or has the basics. The class is about rebuilding reliability when the adolescent brain decides the rules are negotiable.
Most importantly, we coach the owner. The adolescent dog is the version of your dog who is going to test the way you respond to every challenge. The owner habits installed during these months stick for the next ten years.
What we commonly hear from Shellharbour clients
"She used to be perfect off-lead at Killalea. Now she runs to every other dog." Adolescent recall regression. Standard, expected, and trainable.
"He's started barking at people on the walk near the lake." Adolescent fear period, common between 6-9 months. Faster you address it, smaller the consequence.
"The puppy school stuff has stopped working." Almost universally true at this stage. The foundation needs upgrading for the bigger, hormonally different dog.
How to enrol
Classes run from Shop 4/2 Commerce Drive, Lake Illawarra. New intakes start most months. Cap the class size on purpose to keep the attention per dog high.
