4-Week Calm Kickstart in Shellharbour, NSW
Our signature four-week structured program, run from the Lake Illawarra academy. Built for dogs across Shellharbour, Albion Park, Oak Flats, Warilla, and Mount Warrigal whose owners want a real reset.
What the Calm Kickstart is
The 4-Week Calm Kickstart is our flagship program. Four weeks of structured days at the academy, with intensive calm installation, foundation training, controlled real-world exposure, and home integration coaching. The dog goes home each evening. The owner is fully part of the program.
It is not a board-and-train. We don't keep dogs overnight. The Kickstart works because the dog learns calm in a structured environment during the day, and you reinforce it at home in the evenings. By week four, the calm is the dog's default state.
Why Shellharbour owners book it
The Shellharbour-area dogs we enrol typically have one of a few patterns.
The wired beach dog. Plenty of physical exercise, almost no mental training. By six months old they're impossible to live with despite getting more activity than 90% of dogs anywhere. We rebalance the equation.
The reactive on-lead dog. Can't pass another dog on the walk, can't be at the cafe, can't enjoy the beach because every other dog is a trigger. The Kickstart's calm-first approach is built specifically for this profile.
The rescue settling in. A recently adopted dog whose history is partly unknown, whose owner wants to set the next ten years up properly from the start. Four weeks of structure does more in this case than six months of weekly sessions.
The adolescent rebellion. The 8-month-old who's forgotten everything from puppy school. The Kickstart resets the rules clearly.
How the four weeks unfold
Week 1: Calm. Place training, structured downtime, predictable rhythm. Almost no obedience drilling. Just calm. Your dog learns that the academy is a place where good things happen quietly.
Week 2: Foundation skills. Recall, leash, basic obedience, all built on top of the new calm state. This is where most owners notice the dog they thought they couldn't have.
Week 3: Exposure. Real-world environments at the dog's manageable level. For Shellharbour dogs, that means structured outings near the lake, on the foreshore, and eventually in busier dog environments.
Week 4: Home integration. Heavy focus on the home version of everything we built. Owner coaching, the rhythm that keeps the change in place, the troubleshooting for the months after we wave goodbye.
How it differs from a weekly private session
Private sessions are great when your dog needs one or two specific things addressed. The Kickstart is for dogs who need a deeper, foundational change. The difference is the cumulative effect of structured days. A dog who spends thirty days in a calm environment with consistent rules becomes a fundamentally different dog. That depth isn't possible in an hour-a-week format.
The whole program is built on The Walkys Method: clarity, calm, and fulfilment, applied with intensity. It is the most concentrated dose of our system you can buy.
Who it's right for, and who it isn't
Right for: Dogs with arousal, reactivity, or behavioural patterns that haven't responded to lighter approaches. Households ready to commit. Owners willing to do the home coaching alongside the dog's academy days.
Not the right starting point if: Your dog has a serious bite history (separate pathway). You're not in a position to commit four weeks. You want someone else to fix the dog while you stay uninvolved.
How to book and what it costs
Shellharbour enrolments run from our Lake Illawarra academy at Commerce Drive. Days available are Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. Spaces are limited to keep the calm environment intact, so there's usually a one to two week waiting list.
