What the Calm Kickstart is
The 4-Week Calm Kickstart is the program we built when we realised that one-hour weekly sessions weren't enough for the dogs who really needed help. It's four weeks of structured days at the academy, with deliberate calm installation, foundation training, and home integration so the new patterns survive when your dog comes home.
It is not a board-and-train. Your dog stays with you outside scheduled days. We're not interested in fixing your dog in isolation and then handing them back broken on the first day home. The Kickstart is a partnership program. Your dog does the work at the academy during the week. You do the work at home in the evenings and on weekends. We coach you through every step.

How the four weeks unfold
Week 1: Calm and clarity. Place training, structured downtime, predictable rhythm. Your dog spends the week learning that the academy is a calm environment with clear rules. Owner sessions teach you the home equivalent.
Week 2: Foundation skills. Now that calm is reliable, we start the obedience work: recall, leash skills, sit/drop/stay under distraction. Crucially, the calm work continues every day. We don't trade calm for skills.
Week 3: Real-world exposure. Structured outings, busier environments, the actual challenges your dog faces in Wollongong. The foreshore. Cafe strips. Other dogs at distance, then closer. Always within what the dog can handle.
Week 4: Home integration. Heavy focus on transferring the skills to your home environment. We coach you on the daily routine, the structure that maintains the change, and the troubleshooting for the first three months after the program ends.
What the Kickstart looks like in practice
Your dog spends scheduled days at our Unanderra academy. They arrive in the morning, work through a structured day (calm, training, controlled exposure, rest), and go home each evening. Most owners come in for at least two coaching sessions during the four weeks to learn the home side of the work.
This is the most intensive single program we offer, and the most transformative. It uses every part of The Walkys Method simultaneously. It is also the most expensive option for most situations, and we'll tell you honestly if a less intensive program would suit your dog better.
Who it's right for, and who it isn't
It's right for: Dogs with significant arousal or behavioural patterns. Owners who've tried other options. Households ready to commit four weeks to a structured reset. Dogs whose owners want a different dog at the end of the program, not just a slightly improved version of the same one.
It's not the right starting point if: Your dog has a serious bite history (these cases need a more specialised pathway). Your situation has changed too recently to commit to a four-week structure. You're hoping to outsource the dog and stay uninvolved (the program won't work).
How to book and what it costs
Wollongong-area enrolments run from the Unanderra academy. Days available include Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. Spots are limited so we can keep the calm environment intact, so the waiting list is usually a week or two.
