4-Week Calm Kickstart for Kiama Dog Owners

Our signature four-week structured program, available to Kiama residents at our Lake Illawarra academy. A 25-minute drive that ends in a fundamentally different dog.

The Kiama dog reality

Kiama is one of the better dog towns on the South Coast. Werri Beach, the Coast Walk, the Bombo Headland, the cafe strip along Manning Street. Most of our Kiama clients live somewhere within ten minutes of a great walk and a great coffee.

It also has more dogs per family than the regional average. And what we keep hearing from Kiama families is the same pattern: the dog has every opportunity in the world and still can't be calm at home, calm at the cafe, or calm passing another dog on the lead. That pattern isn't a Kiama-specific problem. It's the modern dog problem. The Calm Kickstart is the deepest fix we offer for it.

What the Calm Kickstart is

Four weeks of structured days at the academy. Calm work installed first. Foundation training built on top. Real-world exposure to the kinds of environments your dog will live in. Home integration so the changes stick after week four.

It is not a board-and-train. Your dog goes home each evening. You're part of the program. The Kickstart works because the dog learns the new patterns at the academy, and you reinforce them in the actual home where they'll live.

What it looks like as a Kiama family

Our nearest academy to Kiama is Lake Illawarra in Shellharbour, roughly 25 minutes north up the M1. The Kickstart runs Tuesday through Friday, so most Kiama families do morning drop-offs on the way to other obligations and afternoon pickups on the way home. Several Kiama clients have arranged carpool pickups with others on the program.

If you'd prefer not to do the drive every day, the alternative is a hybrid approach: one or two days a week of in-person work at the academy, plus weekly online coaching with Nath. It's less intensive than the full Kickstart, but it works well for Kiama families with travel constraints.

Why the program works

The Calm Kickstart uses every part of The Walkys Method at full intensity. Most dog training programs run an hour a week, then ask the dog and owner to maintain everything in between. The Kickstart inverts that. The structured environment does most of the work; the owner integrates it. The cumulative effect of thirty days of consistent calm in a properly designed environment isn't replicable in a weekly format.

Who it suits

The Kiama families we've enrolled have typically had one of these dogs:

  • The on-lead reactive dog that's made cafes and beach walks impossible.
  • The high-energy dog who can't switch off at home despite plenty of exercise.
  • The rescue dog settling into a new household, where the next three months will set up the next ten years.
  • The adolescent who's regressed from puppy school and needs a structured reset.

How to book

Spaces are limited so we can maintain the calm environment. There's usually a one to two week waiting list.

For Kiama families specifically, the smartest first step is a free 30-minute call. We'll figure out whether the full program, a hybrid format, or one of our lighter options is the right fit for your dog and your travel constraints.
