Why structured puppy school matters here

Dapto households tend to have what puppies need on paper: a backyard, family, and easy access to walks. What they often don't have is structured early training. A new puppy in a big yard with kids is going to figure things out on their own, and the things they figure out are not always the things you'd choose. Counter-surfing, jumping, barking at the fence, herding the children. All learned habits from a puppy who's been left to invent their own curriculum.

Puppy school is how you front-load the training so the first six months install the habits you want, rather than the habits the puppy invents while you're at work.

What our puppy school covers

A structured four-week program for puppies 8 to 16 weeks old. Classes run from our Unanderra academy, easily reached from Dapto via the Princes Highway.

What you'll learn together:

• Calm and settle work. Critical for indoor manners in a busy household.
• Foundation cues: sit, drop, recall, leash basics, name response.
• Safe, structured socialisation with other puppies in a controlled environment.
• Toileting, crate training, and night-time routines.
• How to read your puppy's body language so you can prevent the problems before they happen.

What we commonly see from Dapto puppy parents

"He gets out in the yard for two hours and is still bouncing off the walls inside." Standard. The yard is exercise, not mental work. We balance that in week one.

"She's started herding the kids." Common in Cattle Dog and Kelpie crosses, which are well-represented in this area. Drive that needs an outlet, plus impulse control work.

"The training I did last week stopped working today." Almost always inconsistency between household members. We coach the whole family.
