4-Week Calm Kickstart for Dapto Dog Owners

Our signature four-week intensive program, available to Dapto, Horsley, Brownsville, Yallah, and Kanahooka families. Easy access from either of our academies.

The Dapto dog scene

Dapto households tend to have what most modern dogs need on paper: bigger backyards, family routines, and easy access to bushland and lake walks. Despite that, we get a steady stream of Dapto families calling us because the dog can't settle, won't recall, or has become impossible on the lead.

The pattern is usually the same. The yard provides physical space without mental structure. The dog has room to run but no defined off switch. By the time they're a year old, they've trained themselves to be wired all day. The Calm Kickstart is the most reliable way we know to undo that pattern.

What the Calm Kickstart is

A four-week structured program where your dog spends scheduled days at the academy installing calm, foundation skills, real-world exposure, and home integration. Your dog comes home each evening. You're part of the program every step of the way.

Not a board-and-train. The Kickstart works because the dog learns in a structured environment during the day, and you reinforce the same patterns at home.

What it looks like for Dapto families

Both Walkys academies are roughly 10 to 15 minutes from Dapto, which makes the daily drive realistic for most families on the program. The Lake Illawarra academy is on Commerce Drive, easy access via Princes Highway south. The Unanderra academy is on Waverley Drive, slightly north and inland.

Most Dapto families pick whichever academy fits their work commute. Kickstart days run Tuesday through Friday. You'll do morning drop-offs and afternoon pickups, with two or three coaching sessions during the four weeks to learn the home side of the work.

The four-week structure

Week 1: Calm. Place training, structured downtime, predictable rhythm. We don't drill obedience. We install the off switch.

Week 2: Foundation training. Recall, leash skills, basic obedience, built on the calm we installed in week one.

Week 3: Real-world exposure. Structured outings where the dog practises everything they've learned, in environments graded to what they can handle.

Week 4: Home integration. Heavy focus on the home version of everything. Owner coaching. The daily rhythm that maintains the change.

Why this works when other things haven't

The Calm Kickstart uses every element of The Walkys Method at full intensity. The cumulative effect of thirty consistent structured days in a properly designed environment doesn't compare with one-hour-a-week formats. Most owners notice a different dog by the end of week one, and a fundamentally different dog by week four.

The Dapto dogs we typically enrol

  • Big-yard dogs who never learned to be calm indoors.
  • Working-breed crosses (Kelpie, Cattle Dog, Border Collie crosses) who need a job, not more exercise.
  • Multi-dog households where one dog is winding the others up.
  • Rescues who arrived with patterns that need a structured reset.
