Assistance Dog Training in Adelaide & South Australia
Owner-trained assistance dog certification for Adelaide and regional SA. NDIS-approved. Delivered remotely from our NSW academy with coordinated in-person Public Access Test assessment.
How we work with SA clients
Walkys is based in NSW. Adelaide is roughly 1,400 kilometres west of our Illawarra academy. The format that makes it work for South Australian handlers is the same that works for Perth, Brisbane, and Melbourne: the bulk of training happens online and in your local environment, with one or two travel-down trips for hands-on intensive work and a coordinated final PAT day.
Most Adelaide clients do:
- Weekly online private training sessions with Nath during the foundation phase.
- Local in-public exposure work coached remotely.
- One travel-down trip across the 12 to 24 month program for hands-on intensive work.
- Coordinated PAT assessment at our NSW academy or with an aligned SA-based assessor.
SA assistance dog context
South Australia recognises assistance dogs under state legislation and federally under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992. The federal protections apply nationally, so a Walkys-certified assistance dog retains public access rights across Australia.
Specific SA arrangements (registration, identification, accreditation pathways) can be confirmed via the South Australian Department of Human Services and your support coordinator. State arrangements evolve, so we always recommend checking current requirements before relying on specific public access scenarios.
The pathway
- Initial Consultation (online via Zoom)
- Suitability Test
- Private Training Sessions
- Public Training Sessions
- Public Access Test (PAT)
- Ongoing: Annual Reassessment

NDIS funding for SA clients
Walkys is an NDIS-approved provider. NDIS funding does not change between states. We work with NDIA-managed, plan-managed, and self-managed clients across South Australia and provide the documentation your support coordinator will need.
